"THE GREG" FACES PUNISHMENT TO JOIN FVWBL

March 23rd, 2003

Behind an almost-closed door Saturday evening, Adam Flaherty, the FVWBL's acting secretary, and Judd Berthiaume, the FVWBL's acting President met for 32 seconds to discuss a multitude of issues. The main item on the agenda was how to deal with "The Greg's" recent outburst regarding Frank Viola on the web discussion board. After long deliberation the duo decided that two actions were necessary:

An almost secure meeting took place Saturday.
  • The Greg would have to serve a five-day ban from the webboard effective March 23rd, 2003
  • The Greg would have to act as the foul pole on opening day of the 2003 season (whichever way the ball is hit he must run over and be the foul pole on that side)

The Greg called Commissioner Frank Viola a "jerk" and cited unconfirmed problems he had in Minnesota and New York on the web discussion board. A long discussion thread broke out on the web page but The Greg was unable to convince anyone but himself that Viola is, in fact, a jerk.

Viola, in a short statement, said that he doesn't worry about detractors.

"Baseball is a business," Viola said. "It's just like any other business. You have employees who want to be paid fairly and you have owners who want to limit their costs. When that happens you are going to have differences in the appraisal of a business' assets. Unfortunately in professional sports there is an attachment the fans have with their favorite players and teams and it sometimes gets blown out of proportion. If a major corporation lost an employee to another major corporation the general public wouldn't think much about it. But when it's their favorite team they have emotional reactions.

"The Greg was misinformed and even if he sees things differently than I do I still hope he will accept the jurisdiction Mr. Flaherty and Mr. Berthiaume have determined for him and then have a long and prosperous career in the FVWBL. It's all about fun and I'm proud to have my name attached to something that has been fun for this group of people for a few years now."

The Greg was unavailable for comment Saturday evening.
