MIKE AND ADAM ENLIST JACKIE'S ARM TO WIN FIRST TITLE OF 2003

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- The Cy Young sisters were back in action Wednesday morning as the FVWBL opened up the earliest it has ever opened -- March 26th. Despite blazing fastballs and double-breaking curve balls from Jackie and Shelly, it was Mike and Adam who took the championship. However, they didn't do it without the aid of one of the Cy Sisters.

The tournament opened with a low-scoring affair between Jackie/Jake and Bill/Judd.

Jacob and Jackie took a 1-0 lead late into the game, but Judd and Bill put a couple of runs together and won 2-1 in the end. Bill got the win (1-0) while Jackie (0-1) suffered the loss.

Game two pitted Shelly and Dave up against Mike and Adam. Some very nasty breaking stuff from Shelly had Mike and Adam worried as they fell behind early. They stormed ack to take the game 5-4 in 7 innings, despite a couple of strikeouts by Shelly, to advance to the winners bracket final. Mike (1-0) got the win in this one while Shelly (0-1) took the defeat.

The first knockout game in the losers bracket was a tight one as can be expected when the Cy Sisters do battle, but it would be Shelly and Dave advancing to the losers bracket final with a 3-2 victory over Jackie and Jake. Jackie(0-2) took the loss (0-2), Shelly (1-1) got the win.

The winners bracket final was never a contest. Mike and Adam came out on fire against Bill and Judd and embarassed them with a 15-2 win. Mike (2-0) got the win in this one with Bill (1-1)taking the losing decision.

The losers bracket final didn't get any better as Judd and Bill exacted revenge on their next opponents, Shelly and Dave, with a 13-0 victory. Bill's shutout (2-1) sent him and Judd to the final needing to win twice over Mike and Adam. Shelly (1-2) took the loss.

Immediately following the winners bracket final, Adam was forced to leave for class. In a less than shocking measure, Mike brought on the help of Jackie in an effort to continue

the run him and Adam started. The matchup pitted the top pitcher from two years ago against Bill and Judd. Bill had accounted for almost every last drop of offense him and Judd could muster up as Judd just didn't have it that day, and that would continue. Bill's hot hitting got him and Judd off to an early start. Jackie and Mike would counter, though, and tie the game at four in the late innings, but Bill and Judd would tack one on in the bottom of the 7th to take the first championship game 5-4. Bill got the win (2-1), with Jackie taking the loss (0-3).

So while Bill and Judd were gaining momentum, Jackie got tougher. The game would go overtime for the second straight game, but this time it would be Jackie and Mike scoring in the bottom of the 7th to win 3-2. Jackie's win (1-3) gave her and Mike the championship. Bill took the loss (2-2).
