SHELLY, BILL EACH TAKE TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS MONDAY AFTERNOON

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Shelly and her sidekick, Bill, were on fire Easter Monday afternoon as they each took two tournament titles including Tournament One as a team. Kevin Madigan, in his FVWBL debut, also took a title to go with Mike's second championship of

The three tournaments started just before noon after an extended batting practice due to an uneven number of players. Jake and Greg failed to participate due to their willingness to witness, in person, the demolition of the Minnesota Twins' J.V. team by the New York Yankees All-Star team (15-1). Bill and Kevin along with Eric and Adam also had delayed arrivals due to prior commitments.

Shelly and Bill took the first tournament on three straight shutouts by Shelly. The "Storm," as they would be known for the opening tournament, first knocked Katie and Kevin into the losers bracket with a 1-0 victory. Shelly and Bill followed that with an identical 1-0 victory over Jackie, Mike and Judd. After the trio held off a last-inning rally by Katie and Kevin by a 4-3 score, Shelly and Bill quickly disposed of them with a 4-0 victory and the first championship of the day.

Kevin Madigan made his FVWBL debut and won his first championship.

Tournament Two also went to Shelly, but this time her partner was Kevin Madigan. In a single elimination tournament this time, Shelly and Kevin took game one with a 1-0 victory in eight innings. One would think that Jackie, Mike and Judd -- who drew the same

teammates for the second tournament in a row -- would have had a huge advantage having the bye in this single elimination tournament. It didn't matter, however, as Shelly continued her dominance with another eight-inning victory by a 2-1 score. It was the first run Shelly allowed in her five games pitched through Tournament Two.

Shelly's mastery continued for one more game as her pitching knocked Katie and Judd into the Tournament Three losers bracket with a 2-1 victory in eight innings. After Mike and Bill sent Jackie and

Mike took his second championship of 2003.

Eric into the losers bracket, Shelly finally succumbed to Mike and Bill as they put up 7 runs and shut out Shelly and Kevin.

Jackie and Eric knocked Katie and Judd out of the tournament with a 3-1 victory before Adam, a late arrival, filled in for Jackie when she had to leave to fulfill her coaching duties as assistant coach of the 8th grade softball team at St. Rose of Lima. The Brothers Flaherty (Adam and Eric) then knocked Shelly and Kevin out of Tournament Three by an identical 3-1 score. They stayed on a roll as Adam outdueled Mike 1-0 in seven innings in the first championship game. But Mike's 8th inning bomb to center field gave Mike and Bill the championship in the "if" game.
