SOURCE
SAYS WILKING MAY RETURN IN 2003
October 28th, 2002
ROSEVILLE, MINN. -- A source close to Jackie
Wilking has told the FVWBL that Wilking is considering a
comeback in 2003.
It is believed that Wilking, widely regarded
as the most dominating Wiffle Ball player in FVWBL history,
isn't satisfied with her career as it stands. It is only speculative,
but it seems that the female home run crown -- the only piece
missing in her accomplished career -- is the main focus of her
considerations.
Wilking has amassed nine team Wiffle Ball championships
-- the most of any player in FVWBL history. Wilking has won
tournaments with three different teammates and won the 2001
Frank Viola Award for the league's Most Outstanding Pitcher
with a record of 15-8.
Wilking has also served as the FVWBL's chief
planner in the two most successful Wiffle Ball seasons in history.
However, she finished 2001 with three homeruns
-- four shy of rival Shelly Kroona who took the female homerun
crown that season.
"It would be great to have her back,"
said fellow FVWBL player, Judd Berthiaume. "Jackie has
been a great player and a great person to be around and her
absence was glaring. Also, there has been quite a shortage of
good pitchers in the league this past year and scores have risen
to an all-time high."
Frank Viola, FVWBL commissioner, said that Wilking's
return would instantly add more credibility to the league.
"2002 saw a ridiculously low number of
events scheduled -- one -- and it was all guys," Viola
said. "How can we call this the top Wiffle Ball League
in the world without the top women players? And how are we going
to lure the top men players without the top women players?"
Rumor has it that FVWBL President Judd Berthiaume
will work tirelessly to bring back Wilking as it may get him
back in good graces with boss, Frank Viola. Viola has reportedly
soured on his President over lack of planning.
Wilking was unavailable for comment Monday morning.
